At Whitemarsh Family Dentistry, our dentists and team are trained to use the Bioclear® Method as a cost effective alternative to traditional dental crowns and veneers. The Bioclear Method is a conservative technique which is adaptable to various situations. It can be used to restore broken or chipped teeth, fill in undesirable gaps, and can be used to rebuild your whole smile. What is the Bioclear Method?

The Bioclear® Method uses a combination of minimally-invasive dentistry, injection molding techniques and unique composite restoration designs to solve a variety of dental problems. With the Bioclear Method, our dentists can address the following smile flaws that may have been caused by age, orthodontics, gum surgery or decay:

  • Chipped teeth
  • Stained or discolored teeth
  • Uneven or small teeth
  • Damage from decay
  • Gaps or “black triangles” between your teeth

With this innovative technique, our dentists will use a thin plastic shell to form a dental composite which is wrapped around your tooth to fill in unwanted spaces and form a fully functional, aesthetically pleasing smile. First, the problematic tooth or teeth will be cleaned thoroughly. A thin mylar form will be customized to your tooth and slipped under the gumline. Then, a warmed composite resin will be injected into the form and hardened with ultraviolet polymerization. Finally, Dr. Shah will polish the tooth to blend in perfectly with the rest of your smile.

How is the Bioclear Method different from traditional dentistry?

Unlike traditional dental bonding or dental veneers, the Bioclear Method does not leave ledges that can cause staining or cavities when plaque and bacteria catch on them, and it does not require tooth structure to be removed so a veneer can be placed. Because this method uses dental composites instead of porcelain, it is also less expensive than dental veneers and can be easily repaired if it is ever chipped due to an accident or unconscious teeth grinding.

How strong is Bioclear?

Bioclear is an additive technique, meaning it strengthens and supports your natural teeth without needing to remove any original tooth structure. While dental bonding traditionally is applied in layers, creating small holes or rough edges in the restoration, Bioclear is applied in one overlay. Both of these factors make Bioclear restorations very strong.

Restorations created with the Bioclear Method will last as long as an average dental crown or veneer — up to 10 years with proper care and hygiene. This is a significant advantage over dental bonding, which do not last as long.

How expensive is Bioclear?

On average, the Bioclear Method operates just as well as a traditional cosmetic crown while remaining 25-50% cheaper. Compared to dental veneers, the Bioclear Method may be 40-60% cheaper. As a cosmetic procedure, the Bioclear Method is not covered by most dental insurances.
